Website calls
Install NMC's website script so visitors see pool tracking numbers and calls match back to the right visit.
Website calls swaps your regular phone number on the page with a tracking
number from your business’s pool, letting NMC tie each incoming phone call back
to the exact ad click or website visit that brought the caller while still
ringing your existing business phone. You’ll need access to edit your website’s
<head> HTML (or help from whoever manages your site).
Each active visitor sees their own assigned pool number, and incoming calls link to whichever visitor saw that number most recently over the past 90 days. Never copy a displayed pool number onto print materials or directories; see website numbers for why.
Install and test website call tracking
Section titled “Install and test website call tracking”-
Create your website tracking source
Section titled “Create your website tracking source”Open Tracking, choose Add tracking, and select Website calls. Enter Phone number shown on your website so NMC knows which number on your pages to swap (and where to find local tracking numbers nearby). Pick your verified forwarding number, choose your pool size, review the area code and monthly cost on the quote, and choose Start tracking. See where new numbers come from.
-
Copy your business’s tracking script
Section titled “Copy your business’s tracking script”On Tracking, choose View code on the Tracking code card, then choose Copy code.
-
Paste the script into your
Section titled “Paste the script into your <head>”<head>Add the Tracking code snippet inside the
<head>element across your website, including any standalone landing pages on subdomains. -
Publish your site changes
Section titled “Publish your site changes”Deploy or publish your site so the live pages serve the script.
-
Confirm NMC sees visits
Section titled “Confirm NMC sees visits”Load your live website in a browser. On Tracking, the Tracking code card will update Last visit tracked with your visit timestamp (or enter a URL in Page to check and choose Check my website).
-
Place a test call
Section titled “Place a test call”On your live page (after accepting any cookie banner if your site gates scripts), check that your displayed phone number swapped to a pool number, dial it from a separate phone, and confirm your business line rings and the call appears in NMC.
Always copy the snippet from the specific business you’re setting up: it embeds a public business ID and requires no secret API key. If you also want to track contact forms on your site, enable each form separately under Website forms.
How NMC monitors your tracking script
Section titled “How NMC monitors your tracking script”Real visitor traffic is what keeps your connection status green:
- Every page view that runs the script on your business website (or any of its subdomains) updates Last visit tracked on the Tracking code card, even before your plan starts.
- If zero visits are recorded for 3 days, NMC shows a Warning on Overview and Tracking; after 7 days with no visits, NMC also sends a one-time Problems email.
- Check my website runs an immediate one-time fetch of the URL you enter and displays what it found until the next real visitor arrives. It doesn’t trigger or clear problem banners, and if your script loads only through Google Tag Manager or after cookie consent, a real browser visit with consent accepted is the reliable way to verify it.
If your phone number doesn’t swap
Section titled “If your phone number doesn’t swap”Whenever tracking isn’t active or can’t run, visitors simply see the original phone number already coded on your page, so make sure that fallback number is a working line. If your number isn’t swapping on live visits, check:
- You’re viewing the published live domain matching your business’s website URL (not a local or staging preview).
- The tracking source is active and your account balance is above $0.
- Your phone number appears on the page as real text or a
tel:link rather than baked inside an image. - No ad blocker or cookie banner is blocking the script from loading.
