Google Business Profile

Tag your Google Business Profile website link, place a tracking number as its primary phone, and put your original number back cleanly later.

Connecting your Google Business Profile lets NMC tag its website button so website calls and forms from Maps and local search are credited accurately, and optionally lets NMC place a dedicated tracking number as your primary phone while keeping your original business number saved as an additional line. You’ll need a Google sign-in with management access to your Google Business Profile.

Connect and tag your Google Business Profile

Section titled “Connect and tag your Google Business Profile”
  1. Open Integrations → Google Business Profile and connect your Google account.
  2. Pick your Google Business Profile. NMC previews your website link before and after adding utm_source=google, utm_medium=organic, and utm_campaign=gbp (replacing any existing values for those three UTM keys; if your Google Business Profile has no website URL set, NMC leaves it blank).
  3. Choose Use this Google Business Profile. NMC publishes the tagged website URL right away; check Google Search or Maps afterward to confirm it’s live.

If you start Google Business Profile call tracking from Add tracking first, NMC walks you through these exact steps automatically.

  1. Start Google Business Profile tracking from Tracking.
  2. Choose Check current phones. NMC sets your new tracking number as the primary phone, and under Keep as additional phones lets you keep up to two of your existing numbers listed alongside it. NMC also saves your original phone configuration so it can put everything back if you remove tracking later. (If an older NMC tracking number is still on your Google Business Profile, NMC excludes that old tracking number from your saved original phones.)
  3. Pick a verified forwarding number, then choose a tracking number matched near your Google Business Profile’s primary phone. See where new numbers come from.
  4. Choose Start tracking, check the published phone number on Google, and place a test call from another phone.

When a customer clicks the tagged website link on your Google Business Profile and then calls a website pool number or submits a tracked form, NMC credits the lead to Google Business Profile.

However, an in-window Google Ads click always takes priority: if that same browser clicked one of your Google ads earlier within your conversion window, NMC credits the lead to Google Ads and uploads that ad click (while still recording the Google Business Profile visit in the lead’s Journey). See where a lead came from.

NMC checks your Google Business Profile’s website URL daily, and checks its phone numbers whenever phone tracking is active. Any problem links to Integrations → Google Business Profile:

  • Google Business Profile phone numbers changed or Google Business Profile change not approved: Google isn’t displaying the tracking number NMC set.
  • Google Business Profile website changed: Your website URL no longer has NMC’s UTM parameters, so clicks from it look like ordinary website visits (if both the phone numbers and website URL changed, NMC shows the phone numbers problem first).

To fix either one, choose Check Google Business Profile to inspect what Google currently displays, and choose Publish changes to reapply your tagged URL and phone settings, or choose Open Google Business Profile to edit them directly in Google. Once Google shows the expected settings, the problem clears automatically.

If your Google token expires, choose Reconnect on Integrations → Google Business Profile. If you see Google Business Profile unavailable, Google reported either that the Google Business Profile is suspended/closed or that the connected Google user no longer manages it (Google’s API doesn’t distinguish between the two); if ownership changed hands, choose Reconnect with a Google account that manages it, and NMC will recheck within a minute.

Always remove Google Business Profile phone tracking in NMC while your Google account is still connected:

  • If your phones on Google still match what NMC published, NMC puts your exact original primary and additional phones back automatically.
  • If someone edited the phones in Google meanwhile, NMC removes only its tracking number and promotes your original primary phone back to primary if it is still listed. Because Google requires at least one primary phone, NMC leaves its tracking number in place if removing it would leave zero phone numbers.
  • Your website link keeps NMC’s UTM tag. Always check your published Google Business Profile afterward to confirm your regular business number is showing.
