Texts
Read incoming customer texts and attachments in NMC, set up text alerts, and reply from your phone.
When someone sends a text message to one of your tracking numbers, NMC records it as a Text activity on their lead. Open the activity in NMC to read the full message, view any attached photos or files, and see the contact’s history.
Replying to customer texts
Section titled “Replying to customer texts”NMC is receive-only for texts: you cannot send outbound texts from a tracking number inside NMC. To reply, call or text the customer’s phone number shown in NMC directly from your own business phone (your reply will come from your own number).
If you receive an NMC text alert on your mobile phone, tap the link inside the alert to view the customer’s phone number in NMC and message them directly. Never reply to the NMC text alert itself, as replies to NMC’s alerts number don’t go to the customer.
Text alerts
Section titled “Text alerts”You can turn on Text alerts individually for each forwarding number:
- Open Business → Tracking and scroll to Forwarding numbers.
- Switch on Text alerts next to the mobile phone that should get notified.
Whenever a customer texts any tracking number that forwards calls to that
phone, NMC’s alerts number sends a short notification text showing the sender’s
phone number, a preview of their message (any URLs in the customer’s text are
replaced with (link) for deliverability; open NMC to view full links), and a
sign-in link straight to the activity in NMC.
Verification and confirmation texts
Section titled “Verification and confirmation texts”Text alerts are off by default on new forwarding numbers and require a phone verified by text:
- When adding a new forwarding number with a code sent by text, you can check Text this phone when customers text you right away.
- If a forwarding number was originally verified by phone call, turning on Text alerts prompts you to confirm a code sent by text first so NMC knows the line can receive texts.
- Each time you turn Text alerts on, NMC sends a single confirmation text to
that phone (unless the phone previously opted out with
STOP). The very first confirmation text for each forwarding number is free and works even before your plan starts or funds are added; turning alerts back on again later requires an active plan and a balance above $0.
Turning Text alerts off stops notification texts to your phone (including any unsent alerts in flight) while still saving every incoming customer text in NMC.
Stopping text alerts
Section titled “Stopping text alerts”Every text alert ends with "Reply STOP to end".
- Opting out (
STOP): ReplyingSTOP(or a standard opt-out keyword such asUNSUBSCRIBE,CANCEL,END, orQUIT) to NMC’s alerts number immediately halts text alerts to that phone across every business in NMC. On any business where Text alerts was turned on, the switch stays on with a Stopped status underneath noting the phone repliedSTOP, and Overview displays"Text alerts to … are stopped"(also sent as a problems email). Businesses where alerts were off stay off. - Opting back in (
START): Only textingSTARTorUNSTOPfrom that same phone to NMC’s alerts number clears aSTOPopt-out. Alerts then resume on every business where Text alerts is switched on, the Stopped notice clears automatically, and NMC’s carrier sends a standard free opt-in reply. Flipping Text alerts off and on inside the NMC dashboard cannot override aSTOPreply on its own: if you turn the switch on while opted out, it shows Stopped until that phone textsSTART. If you don’t want alerts to resume on a particular business when textingSTART, switch Text alerts off there first. - Landlines and phones that can’t receive texts: If the mobile network reports that a forwarding number can’t receive texts at all (such as a landline), NMC stops alerts to that phone across every business, marks it Stopped, and posts the same problem banner and email. Switch to a mobile forwarding number, or turn Text alerts back on and complete verification by text.
- Temporary delivery failures: If a single alert goes undelivered (for
example, while a mobile phone is powered off or out of range), Overview
shows
"Text alerts to … aren't arriving". Alerts remain enabled, undelivered attempts still use one text segment from your balance, and the notice clears as soon as a later alert delivers.
Usage rates and attachment limits
Section titled “Usage rates and attachment limits”- Standard texts: Deducted per incoming text segment (long messages or emojis and non-ASCII characters can span multiple segments).
- Texts with attachments: Deducted once per incoming message at a flat rate covering both text and media, supporting up to 10 files per text (10 MB per file, 25 MB total). See Activities for viewing and downloading attachments.
- Text alerts: Each notification text (and each repeat confirmation text after the first free one) uses one additional text segment, even if the recipient’s carrier fails to deliver it.
- All text rates include carrier surcharges and stay the same for Alaska (
907) and northern Canada (867) forwarding numbers. Check Usage anytime to see current rates.
Keep in mind that incoming texts follow your business’s Lead grouping rules (joining an open lead when the same person reached out recently), and receiving a text in NMC doesn’t guarantee an ad conversion can be matched in Google Ads.
