Closing and correcting leads

Close leads you're finished working, reopen closed leads, or fix a stage or value mistake.

Close a lead once your team is done following up on it:

  • Choose Archive when a real prospective customer asked for work you offer, even though it didn’t turn into a booked job.
  • Choose Not a lead when this was never a new job for you (such as spam, a wrong number, a job seeker, or an existing customer calling about current work).
How to close What it means Available reasons
Archive Legitimate request that didn’t turn into a job. Couldn’t reach them, Price too high, Chose another company, Canceled, Too busy, Other.
Not a lead Never a new job for you. Too far away, Work we don’t do, Job too small, Wrong number, Existing job, Job seeker, Spam or sales call.

To close a lead, open it, choose Close lead at the top right, pick the reason that fits best, and confirm Close lead. If AI review suggested a reason, double-check the call, text, or form before confirming.

How Archive and Not a lead affect reports and integrations

Section titled “How Archive and Not a lead affect reports and integrations”
  • Archive preserves the stages the lead reached and keeps its Google Ads conversions intact. Archiving a New lead also counts it as Qualified (since it was a genuine request for work), except when you pick Other or pick Couldn’t reach them on a lead where the caller or sender left no information at all.
  • Not a lead removes the lead from Qualified counts on Overview and retracts its Qualified and Converted Google Ads conversions wherever Google Ads permits retractions. The lead still counts in total New leads arrived, and its New conversion stays in Google Ads as a record that someone reached out. If that contact has no other leads, NMC also deletes their synced entry from Google Contacts.
  • Google Analytics: When Google Analytics is connected, NMC sends the close event and reason 24 hours later (provided the lead is still closed the same way), sending each close type at most once per lead. Closing a lead as Not a lead within 24 hours of reaching a stage also cancels that stage’s pending Google Analytics event before it sends.
  • To work a closed lead again, choose Reopen on the lead first.
  • To close a lead that was mistakenly marked Converted, move its stage back from Converted first, then close it.
  • To adjust an open lead’s stage or Converted value, choose the updated stage or edit the value directly on the lead page.

If Google Ads already locked a conversion so it can’t be retracted (such as a call from an ad uploaded more than 24 hours after the stage change), NMC asks you to acknowledge that before saving. Your correction still updates NMC’s records and Overview metrics even when Google Ads keeps the older conversion.

Closing a call as Spam or sales call updates your lead counts and Google Ads conversions, and does not refund call minutes already used on an answered call. See Google Ads corrections for exact details on when Google Ads allows conversion retractions and value edits.
