Sharing contact details
Let Google use form contact details to help match a lead to an ad.
Share form contact details with Google is optional and turned off by default. When you turn it on, NMC sends hashed email or phone details from a lead’s original form submission so Google Ads has another way to match the lead to an ad click. Hashing converts the email address or phone number into a one-way code that Google compares against signed-in Google accounts.
Contact matching can help both when a form submission already has a Google click ID and when it doesn’t. Google Ads still counts a conversion only if it matches those details to one of your ad clicks.
When a lead also has a Google click ID, NMC includes form contact details only while the click is under 60 days old, because Google rejects contact details sent more than 63 days after the click. After 60 days, NMC uploads the click ID on its own. NMC also uploads the click ID alone for certain iPhone ad clicks (where Google doesn’t accept contact details) and for form submissions sent through NMC’s API with only a raw click ID (since NMC doesn’t know when that click happened). See what Google Ads receives.
Before turning it on
Section titled “Before turning it on”Open Integrations → Google Ads and follow Steps needed in Google Ads under Share form contact details with Google:
- Install the Google tag on your website.
- Accept Google’s customer data terms in Google Ads.
- Turn on enhanced conversions for leads in Google Ads.
- Click I completed these steps — check Google Ads, then turn on the switch once NMC confirms your Google Ads account is ready.
Before turning this setting on, make sure your website’s privacy notice covers sharing contact details for ad measurement and that you collect any required consent. NMC’s privacy policy explains how NMC handles this data.
Which details NMC sends
Section titled “Which details NMC sends”NMC uses only the email address and phone number submitted on the original form. Editing the contact in NMC later doesn’t change what NMC sends for that form submission. Keep in mind that hashing doesn’t make this data anonymous, since Google uses the hashed code to identify a matching Google user.
Turning the setting off stops NMC from including form contact details on future uploads, without affecting conversions already uploaded. You can see what was used for any lead in its Google Ads section.
If Google refuses form contact details
Section titled “If Google refuses form contact details”If Google Ads rejects form contact details for your account (for example, because customer data terms aren’t accepted or your account isn’t eligible under Google’s policies), NMC automatically turns the setting off and retries the upload using the click ID alone. For leads that relied solely on form contact details with no click ID, uploads stop. Integrations → Google Ads shows why Google refused them; fix the issue in Google Ads and then turn the setting back on.
